Keeping Your Skin Healthy

A couple of clicks on the internet in the beauty industry, and you will see something that is there, designed to plant a small (or large) seed of doubt in your mind about your appearance. It’s been that way for decades, but what was once constricted to billboards and celeb magazines is now almost everywhere you can look.

What is healthy and what “looks good” has become significantly conflated, to the detriment of people’s self-esteem. The focus should be on what feels good.

While it is normal to want to look your best, it is more crucial that you are healthy. Your skin can often be an indicator of how well your health is doing and vice versa, so if you are looking at what you can do to keep this in check, you have come to the right place!

Feed Your Skin the Right Things

Your skin is the largest organ on your body, and like all organs, it needs the correct nutrition to function well. If you are experiencing issues such as dry skin, tight skin, dull skill or skin problems, there could be a chance that you are lacking in vitamins or minerals that support it.
The best thing you can do for your skin if you are experiencing predominant issues is to go to a doctor and get a blood panel. Any deficiencies can then be addressed through a change in diet or added supplements.

Take Care of It Externally

While healthy skin will be born from the inside, what is put on it is also important. There are so many skincare products on the market now that it can be quickly overwhelming to try and choose the right thing for you and your skin – let alone trying to avoid making anything worse, or causing new problems.

The main things you need to take note of when maintaining healthy skin is to get rid of dead skin cell build-up, moisturize, and ensure it is protected from the sun. You can do this with three simple products. A gentle exfoliator, a moisturizer, and some SPF. That being said, it is important that you get products suited to your skin type and choose ingredients that are protective for your skin, and not harmful.

Ditch the Bad Habits

Everyone is well aware of how bad certain habits are for you, such as smoking, drinking, and going on the sunbeds. They all wreak different kinds of havoc all over the body and have little merit standing on their own. If you are serious about keeping your skin healthy, then getting rid of these will make a world of difference, not to mention the other areas of your health that will improve, too.

An important thing to remember is that everyone’s skin is different, and healthy doesn’t look the same on everyone. Don’t compare yours to filtered, photoshop, or airbrushed images – no one’s skin looks like that, and it gives a false sense of what healthy looks like.
